Mentoring Prison Officer

Lorna joined Unlocked because she believes that prisons can be transformed, and that prison officers have the power to make a difference. She has worked on residential units, induction wings, and more recently in Safer Custody at HMP Styal, a female adult and young offender prison. She is particularly passionate about improving prisoners’ wellbeing and has researched the relationship between architecture, design and mental health in prisons.

Lorna was an Unlocked Associate Trainer in 2023 and later became an MPO to help support new officers in the role. She loves encouraging staff to make positive changes and improve outcomes for the prisoners in their care. She is currently the Mentoring Prison Officer for HMP Risley and HMPYOI Swinfen Hall.
