Kerry joined the prison service in 2017 in the female estate, working in a closed female establishment for five years, tackling the role as prison officer head-on dealing with its daily challenges, wearing many hats, adapting to change through the pandemic and beyond. She has also worked in both male category C and category B prisons on detached duty which has given her an insight into the differences across the estate, and she would like to put to use the skills and knowledge gained from those establishments into the MPO role.
Whilst undertaking a two-year secondment with HMPPS’s Learning & Development team, Kerry also joined the Unlocked Graduates team at Summer Institute as a Summer Trainer in both 2023 and 2024. Within her role as an MPO, she hopes to be able to make a difference to the participants by using everyday conversations to make that change both on the landings and through supportive one-to-ones.
