Mentoring Prison Officer

Janis joined HMPPS in 2019 and worked as a supervising officer for multiple years in HMP Wormwood Scrubs. Janis was introduced to Unlocked Graduates and Unlocked’s mission by participants working in his prison. This led to him applying for an assessor role at Unlocked and later applying for the MPO role. Currently, Janis works as the Mentoring Prison Officer for HMP Wandsworth.

Janis believes that evidence of change in staff culture and better outcomes for prisoners on his wing, while working alongside Unlocked Graduates participants, have elevated his sense of possibility.
