Entry requirements

Unlocked is currently closed for applications but if you are already a graduate, or graduating in 2018, you can register your interest in applying to the programme. You do not have to have specific knowledge or experience of the prison service to apply. Instead, we are looking at your potential to be a part of the programme to make an impact on prisoners’ lives.

In order to apply to Unlocked from Autumn 2017, you must fulfil the following minimum requirements:

  • Have, or be expecting to receive, at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree qualification by July 2018 or equivalent*
  • 300 UCAS points in three A-level subjects or equivalent, not including General Studies*
  • Grade C GCSE English and Maths
  • Have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme (26 months)

The Unlocked two-year leadership development programme is available to graduates who have not yet undergone prison officer training, therefore existing Prison Officers are not eligible to apply.

*If you have just missed this threshold, you are still welcome to apply but you must demonstrate a very high level of the personal attributes we are looking for. There is also space on the application form to state any extenuating or mitigating circumstances for your academic results.
